Pembrokeshire On a gloriously sunny day at Trecoed, Nr Fishguard, good ground provided by watering, brought forward a good number of runners for a large and enthusiastic crowd to cheer home their favourites at the Pembrokeshire Hunt Point to Point. In the opening Hunt Members race, 19 year old Darrack Skelly rode his first winner aboard his own horse Merdeka. The son of a Limerick bookmaker, Darrack has always been involved in racing, and after finishing school he has been working for the past year in Pembrokeshire with Marc Barber who trains the horse for him. Phil York made the long journey from Surrey in his quest to catch Mens National Championship leader Richard Burton and came away a happy man with two winners. Firstly partnering Present of Flame in the 'Restricted' Race, the partnership always raced on the wide outside of the track in search of the fastest ground, recording the largest winning margin of the day, pulling away on the final circuit to an impressive 25 length success and later in the day in the 'Intermediate Race' he steered Ben Tally Ho to victory in a competitive four runner affair, posting the fastest time of the day. York now finds himself on thirty four winners for the season but rival and current championship leader Richard Burton was also in attendance, and is determined to fight off his challenge. From his two rides of the day he conjured up a winner in the 'Mens Open' aboard Keith Pritchard's Chandlers Cross. This was win number 36 for the Shropshire man, and with only two meetings left, both in the West country, the slender lead may be enough to secure a fourth National Title for him, though it looks likely that the championship may not be decided until the finale on June 18th at Umberleigh in Devon. Tonyrefail lady jockey Emily Farr enjoyed a
day to remember, the twenty year old rode her first double aboard
Freddie Lane (Maiden Race) and Little Miss Monty (Ladies Open
Race). Both horses are home bred and trained by her parents
Ross and Shan Farr, a real special family moment for them.
Emily has only just returned to riding after breaking her elbow on
March 26th at the Glamorgan meeting at Ystradowen, and a
truly memorable day was capped when she also won The
Sarah Crayford Memorial trophy, for the top novice rider at the
meeting, a Trophy she also won in 2010. 1st Race Hunt Members 2nd Race Restricted 3rd Race Mens Open 4th Race Open Maiden 5th Race Ladies Open 6th Race Intermediate
