Tweseldown Racing Club
Selbourne rider John Maxse, Communications Director of the Jockey Club, rode his own horse, Whereareyounow to a 25 length win in a hotly contested Mens Open race at Tweseldown on Sunday.
Trained at Alresford by Victoria Collins, Whereareyounow made all the running and jumped superbly to beat last year’s winner Irilut.
That was the only local win at this first successful point-to-point meeting of the season, although Millview went close in the Maiden race ridden by Sandhurst Area jockey Richard Bandey, finishing a half length second to The Tailor Carey – this is a horse to note for the future.
Whereareyounow may turn his attention to hunter chases with a long term aim of running in the Aintree Foxhunters Chase for amateur riders.
Appalling weather conditions early in the day meant that only a modest crowd turned up, but the absentees were the losers since, as the skies brightened, the racing was top class with an average of more than nine runners per race.
