SOUTH TETCOTT
LIFTON Monday 30th May
2005
by Lee Glanville
Racegoers basked in the sunshine
at the South Tetcott meeting on Bank holiday Monday at Lifton,
where there was plenty of action to keep them on their toes. Odds
on favourite in the ladies' race, Hasten Bak, planted himself at
the start and didn't take any part in the race, and men's
championship leader Richard Woollacott took a bad fall in the
Restricted from Here's To Lucy, which is likely to put him out for
the rest of the season.
It was ladies' in the first
three places in the opening confined race which saw Vanessa Shaw on
Mike Weir's Teninarow lower Possible Pardon's colours.
The Laura Young trained Quetal
bounced back to form with a win in the men's open under Neil
Harris. Gardie Grissell made the long trip down from Sussex, and
one of the two horses on board his lorry, Lord Euro, gave Hannah
Grissell a great ride in the ladies' race. He was held up for two
circuits before making a smooth move up through the field five from
home. But a mistake knocked the stuffing out of him and Mystic
Warrior (Tabitha Cave) pounced to record the horse's fourth win of
the season.
Indian Raider (Will Biddick) and
Nditlir (C Heard) had to be split by the judge in the Restricted,
the former getting the verdict. Biddick, this time on Coral Bay,
was denied a double by the out and out stayer Slippery Friend
(Richard Darke) in the open maiden. The firm ground suited River
Dante who skipped round in the Intermediate under Saul Kidston.
