Dulverton Farmers at Mounsey Hill Gate, Sunday, May 23

The dry weather hit the turn out of runners at the picturesque Mounsey Hill Gate course on Exmoor with a total of 21 runners all day.

Title chasing rider Ashley Farrant won the men's open on the Richard Barber-trained Red Native in the closest finish of the day. He had one length to spare over Liam Heard on Haydn James, and moved on to 49 winners nationally, having notched up a hat-trick at the Taunton Vale Harriers meeting midweek. He already has the Devon and Cornwall area title sewn up with 31 wins and 148 points.

Harnage (Caroline Prouse) finished full of running at Bratton Down the previous Saturday, and won the Dulverton maiden, beating the only other finisher by 20 lengths.

There was a first winner of the season for Martin Sweetland who took the second division of the maiden on the Malcolm Beck trained Foston Second.,

Sarah West isn't seen riding at point to points much this season but she won the Restricted on Barton Saint , and another lady rider who has been in terrific form this season is Rilly Goschen. She won the Ladies's open race on Frank Byrne beating the only other finisher, Chloe Roddick on Kandy Four by a distance.

Ricky Isgar rode his first winner, steering Mister RF to victory in the Intermediate Race beating his only other rival Commander Cully (M Sweetland) by three lengths.

Trainer David Pipe incurred a £155 fine for pulling out Brian Kilpatrick's smart horse Cimmaroon after declarations for the Intermediate had closed. Pipe, who trains near Wellington, felt that the ground was too firm.

Hylter¹s Chance, third in the Men's Open race under Colin Heard, has now been retired. Hylters Chance, 13, trained by Polly Curling, recorded a hat-trick of wins last season and won three point to points the previous year, producing his best efforts on fast ground.
