Owner Charles Clark and jockey Jack Teal were in fine form scoring a quick fire double in both divisions of the Confined Race. Sponsored by Kettlewell Fuels, the first division went the way of Grouse Lodge, formerly trained by Donald McCain. Ridden handily throughout, Grouse Lodge picked up well under Jack Teal after kicking for home and clearly enjoyed the softer ground. Although delighted with the win Charles Clark was quick to remind Jack of his misfortune last year at the corresponding meeting, when he rode a finish a circuit too soon. "I got a little bit excited but still managed to finish a close second, if nothing else we knew the horse liked the track!" Smiled Jack. Fever Pitch under Lottie Crane and Ivan Boru (Christy Furness) battled for the placings, with Fever Pitch claiming second.

The second leg of the Clark/Teal double was won by Rumble of Thunder. Quobilai and Lottie Crane led throughout much of the race and finished second, however the winner sat in behind and finished in the same style as Grouse Lodge. Peter From Paris ridden by Jess Gillam took third spot. Charles acquired the horse from Philip Kirby after riding him in a Charity Race at The Countryside Raceday at Aintree last year. "Phil (Kirby) was going to retire him so asked me if I wanted him for pointing." This was Charles' first double as an owner and it was a double for jockey Jack Teal too. "Mum (trainer Emma Clark) and I haven't had a winner for some time so I was beginning to think this would be our last year pointing. Not now!" said a relieved Charles.

Proving that perseverance pays was seen in the shape of Mickey Miller, under Jack Jordan who won the Restricted Race sponsored by Econ Engineering Ltd. Losing his Maiden Tag in 2015 but putting in sound efforts since, it was a meaningful win for Jack Jordan who punched the air when crossing the line. Jack said "He settled well, he has been knocking on the door at this grade for so long! I am pleased he has got his head infront." Zandino and Elliott Brookbanks took second place with Danny Mags and Emma Todd finishing third.

The Timico Mixed Open Race saw seasoned Yorkshire campaigner, Trop Fort cause a surprise, by beating fancied rivals Six A Side (Will Milburn) and Kings Lodge (Will Easterby). Piloted by Emma Smith-Chaston, who was enjoying her third winner, but first in Yorkshire "I bought him from The Coward Family and he jumped brilliant!" enthused Emma, the pair stayed on well in the softened ground to hold off the strong travelling Six A Side who should be seen to better effect on good ground.

It was a first win for Peter Fahey, son of successful flat trainer Richard in the Open Maiden Race, sponsored by Plaskitt & Plaskitt Interior Design. Station Master, owned by Peter's sister Ann-Marie was purchased privately from Ireland, the horse had fallen at Sheriff Hutton but finished a close third at Thorpe Lodge and won the race "On the bridle" said a delighted Peter. "I would say he would want better ground but he is such a good moving horse so he is quite versatile...he feels useful and I might run him again next week!" He continued. The well fancied Crazy Penguin (Will Easterby) could not reel in the leader and came second. Back in third was Frosty Dawn ridden by double scoring Jack Teal.

Shantou Prince, ridden by Christy Furness was back to winning ways in the Intermediate Race, sponsored by P Bumby & Sons. Royal Benefit (David Coates) and Shantou Prince dominated for the majority of the race. "I hit the front sooner than I would have liked but he took me there, he has definitely come on from his run at the Sinnington" explained a thrilled Christy who was heading back to London that evening to carry out his day job as a stockbroker.

The final race on the card was the 2m 4f maiden race which was sponsored by Topspec and it was a one-two for trainer Andrew Nicholls who trained the first two passed the post. Piloted by Will Milburn, Benton's Lad led after the third and secured his lead from there on, Not Far Wrong under Billy Garritty were the only pair to chase down the winner and the son of Courtcave will surely be losing his maiden tag in the near future "He seems to be thriving off racing at the moment, he's been coming out of his races really well!" enthused Will Milburn about the winner. Third was Will Easterby aboard the Steph Easterby trained Yohoof.

The next fixture is The Derwent at Charm Park on Sunday 5th March.
