Four Burrow certainly managed to pull all the rabbits out of the hat for
their Bank holiday meeting at Trebudannon near Newquay and provide as good
a day’s racing as anyone could wish for.
committee had watered thoroughly and they had extra rain which brought out
the runners in quantities not seen for some time.
Glassonbury was the only male rider to win a race on the card and he took
the opening members’ race on Indian Raider in a blanket finish with
Mandy Hand on Let’s Fly and Sarah Gaisford, who was in exceptional form,
on Handsome Henry. In fact, it was such a ladies’ day that only three
other placings were taken by male riders during the afternoon.
Gardner rode a double Going Solo in the two and a half mile maiden race
and Hasten Bak in the Countryside Alliance Club members confined and
was denied a treble when the smart mare County Bash could finish no closer
than third in a hot mixed open.
of Lucy’s wins were of the pillar to post variety, Hasten Bak pulling
out enough to see off the late challenge of Tabitha Cave and Sea Spirit
and Sarah Gaisford on Edward Retter’s Karinga City.
Solo did just that in the 2m4f maiden and both the winner and second
placed Four of a Kind should win over the regular three mile trip. The
latter horse, piloted by that Sarah Gaisford again, did best work over the
last half mile. Lucy Gardner won the Ward Cornwall Cup for most points
gained on the course.
pocket handkerchief would have covered the quarters of the three placed
horses in the mixed open. The Mike Biddick trained Kestick took the bull
by the horns and made a leap up in class to take top spot under Tabitha
Cave, but had to hold off the fast finishing Belitlir (Sue Young) who just
failed to reel in the winner by half a length. Roma Cook’s County Bash
was a further half length back in third.
Gaisford finally turned placings into a win on Bengal Bullet who followed
up his impressive Cherrybrook win with another here, equally as
Shaw enjoyed her first career win on Mike Weir’s Teninarow who took the
older horses’ maiden at a relentless gallop.
