FIRST PLACE FROZEN DAWN
Rated 11 stone 11 lbs. following her success in 1970.
Won 5 races in 25 days during her winning run and acknowledged as probably the best 5-year-old to Point ever.

SECOND PLACE STRAIGHT LADY
Rated 11 stone 10 lbs. after winning the race in 1964. Won 7 races in succession that season including the Lord Ashton of Hyde and Dudley Cup double.

THIRD PLACE CORN STAR
Rated at 11 stone 9 lbs. when he won the race as a 6-year-old back in 1961.
Carried those familiar Emerald green, yellow crossbelts and black cap of Lucy Jones, who died recently.

You may or may not agree with their assessments but there is no denying the fact that it was a brilliant performance by Frozen Dawn and this was achieved before the mare’s allowances was introduced.

The second and third placed horses in 1970 (Lord Fortune and Sunarise) were rated 11 stone 5 lbs. and 11 stone 6 lbs. - sufficient for both of them to win this race in any normal season. The horses she beat had either won or were to win 3 X Players Gold Leaf Trophys (now the Volkswagan Touareg Championship), 2 X United Hunts Cups, 1 X Liverpool Foxhunters and a host of top class Point-to-Pointers.

She won on all types of going so it is difficult to argue with the assertion that she was the best Dudley Cup winner ever.
