POINT-TO-POINTING BENEFITS FROM MAJOR SPONSORSHIPS

The sport has a group of sponsors at both national and local level whose support continues when the 2008 season commences on Sunday 2 nd December at Tweseldown or Black Forest Lodge.

Major sponsors are needed in any sport to maintain its high profile, but without local sponsors individual areas and meetings could struggle to raise awareness of Point-to-Pointing in some areas.

The West Midland Area is keen to acknowledge the support given by all its sponsors – thank you.

Court Consulting have sponsored our area website www.pointingwm.co.uk since it was launched a couple of years ago. Its support has been crucial in providing up-to-date and informative information and this has been to the benefit of both parties.

HUMBERTS & NEWSQUEST (SOUTH MIDLANDS)
Both companies have been major sponsors for the past decade and both the Men’s and Ladies Championships have been won by some high profile riders during that time.

A new sponsorship deal has been struck for 2008 season as Hargreave Hale seeks to increase awareness of their company. You will notice their name appearing on a credit-sized card, which provides details of all the West Midland Area meetings.

G. HERBERT BANKS
Marketed as The Rural Property Specialists is this Worcestershire based Estate Agent, Chartered Surveyors, Land Agents and Auctioneers. They specialise in the sale and letting of rural property in Worcestershire and the surrounding counties.

The company became involved in Point-to-Pointing in 2008 via their sponsorship of the Harkaway Club Championship based on a series of 8 races run at Chaddesley Corbett. They will be hoping to build on the support they received last year where their £500 prize money was won by Scuttlebrook.

BEST OF TASTE CATERING
Novice Riders in the West Midlands fare better than some of their compatriots in other areas thanks to the generosity of The Best of Taste Catering Services headed by Belinda Sparey.

She provides an award for the Best Riding Performance by a Novice Rider at EACH of the areas 13 meetings, plus the Best Riding Performance of the Year by a Novice Rider.

DODSON AND HORRELL
They are the sports longest standing National sponsor, which shows the companies commitment to support countryside pursuits. A new sponsorship deal has been agreed for 2008 with the Point-to-Point Owners and Riders Association (P.P.O.R.A.). A series of 20 qualifying Novice Riders Race throughout the country will culminate in a Final at the North West Club meeting at Tabley in May.

CONNOLLY’S RED MILLS
At the Countryside Day at Cheltenham in mid-November it was announced that Connolly’s RED MILLS UK was set to raise its profile further on the Point-to-Point scene with its sponsorship of the Intermediate Point-to-Point series in 2008.

This was viewed as a natural progression after their sponsorship of Area Championships and individual races at Point-to-Point meetings, which mirrored their growth in the U.K. horse, feed market.

There will be a series of 22 qualifying races followed by the Connolly’s RED MILLS Intermediate Point-to-Point Championship Final at Cheltenhams Hunter Chase meeting on Wednesday 7 th May.

T.B.A./M.F.H.A.
It was also announced at Cheltenham that the T.B.A. was delighted to team up once again with the M.F.H.A. for the Maiden Mares Point-to-Point Series.

12 Maiden Mares qualifiers have been programmed and the first four will be eligible to run in the final at the Atherstone fixture at Clifton on Dunsmore on Saturday 20 th April.

As in 2007, ANY mare winning a Maiden Race that is not in the series will also qualify for the final.

VOLKSWAGEN
This is the third year of the Touareg sponsorship of the Mens Championship with a series of 24 qualifying races leading to the Final at Towcester on Monday 12t h May. V.W. will pay a special bonus of £5000 to the winning owner if the horse has qualified to run in the race by winning or being placed second in any of the 24 sponsored Mens Open.

HARLEY RACING
The Harley Riders Race Points Series will be award for each of the Novice Riders Races scheduled up to and including Sunday 18 th May 2008. The first three riders will receive Harley Racing equipment vouchers to the value of £400, £200 and £100 respectively.

FULLERS BREWERY
This company’s sponsorship continues to increase and in 2008 they will be presenting trophies to the Leading Gentlemen Rider, The Leading Gentlemen Novice Rider and the Leading Lady Novice Rider.

WEATHERBYS CHASE
Northamptonshire based Weatherbys Chase will once again be sponsoring their P.P.O.R.A. Young Horse Awards for the best 4, 5, 6 and 7-year-old Point-to-Pointers in Great Britain.

The National Champion will receive £1000 and a trophy valued at £350, while each area champion will receive a trophy valued at £250. All award winners will receive 2 tickets for the P.P.O.R.A. Lunch at Stratford on 23 rd May 2008.

Weatherbys Chase also sponsor awards for the Leading Hunter Chase Rider and Trainer.

RACING POST WEEKENDER
The Racing Post Weekender provides the sport will unparalleled coverage on the sport every Wednesday with extensive results and entries for forthcoming meetings provided by Carl Evans and Hugh Condry.

HORSE & HOUND
This excellent equestrian magazine provides coverage of Point-to-Point Racing every Thursday where Tessa Jenkins and Brian Armstrong collate information from meetings all over the country. Horse and Hound continue their sponsorship of the Leading Horse Trophy.
