SEAVINGTON
LITTLEWINDSOR
Sunday 20TH April 2008

PREVIEW
by Brian and Gill Armstrong

Picturesque Littlewindsor stages the Seavington meeting this Sunday, 20 th April. The seven race card begins at 2.00pm, preceded at 1.00pm by two pony races, qualifiers for the Wessex Pony Racing Series Final at the end of May.

The two Open races take the eye. Entries for the Ladies’ Open include Rimpton Boy, Quizzling and Dr Cerullo, the first three home in the Cattistock equivalent contest on 30 th March. Chloe Roddick has entered Perouse – a winner at Ystradowen on Saturday – and Goblet Of Fire, who was surprisingly turned over at 1-3F at Cilwendeg the following day. Other contenders are William and Angela Rucker’s Blue Business, Saint Romble, who returned to form at Kingston St Mary, Tory Blue – impressive at the Cattistock – and Talikos, who has disappointed of late, but won well early on at Wadebridge. Rimpton Boy acts well at Littlewindsor and is fancied for his 28 th career success.

The Men’s Open has attracted 11 entries, including strong stayers Barney Blue and Bush Park. Braeroy won his Intermediate at Upcott Cross and may complete his rise through the ranks if reappearing here. Westover Lad should have benefited from his Kingston St Mary reappearance and may provide the greatest danger.

The meeting opens with a competitive looking 2½ mile Open Maiden. Ashclyst and Sahara Legend have been placed on several occasions and may head the market. Sweet Nap may be a longer-priced alternative.

Seven are entered for the Hunt Members. Askers Jack and Senor Cid may be the two to consider.

Four candidates for the Open Maiden are Sahara Legend, Little Kimmie – a respectable third at the Cattistock – Max’s Choice, who has been in the frame in his three completed outings to date, and the similarly consistent No Waiting. Marias Rock could represent Camilla Scott’s in-form yard and may be a sporting suggestion.

The Dodson & Horrell PPORA Novice Riders race has attracted an entry of 11. Taksina won a similar contest for the Atkinson family at Badbury Rings on Saturday and may be able to follow up.

The meeting closes with the Restricted. Martin Pitchwood, Shady Hollow, course winner Tabaristan and Woodbridge Quest are four contenders. Jacks Taxi was a good runner-up to the useful Foolish Myth at Cherrybrook and may be another winner for Camilla Scott.

The course is situated on the Dorset/Somerset border 3 miles south of Crewkerne off the A3066. First race 1.00pm (ponies); 2.00pm (point-to-point). Admission £20 per car; £10 per car with a single occupant.
