Bumper entry kicks off the new season at Black Forest on Sunday

The new point-to-point season gets underway at Black Forest Lodge on Sunday where a bumper entry means there will be nine races with the first under orders at 11am.

That's when point-to-point aficionados will be watching out for budding new talent for the season ahead as young, novice horses take their place in the first maiden race run over 2m4f of the new season. There are two divisions, with 17 entries in each.

Then there's a club members race and heading the entries is Fully Loaded who won an incredible nine times last season.

There are two divisions of the restricted with plenty of promising types set to line up including Terminalexcitement, Magic Marmalade, Mayfairs Lastchance, Mr Redwood and Red Watch who won his maiden race at the equivalent meeting last year.

The 26 entries in the mixed open include the Richard Barber-trained Le Duc and two ex National Hunt horses, Simon and Qauddick Lake.

The highly rated Simon was a winner of the Racing Post Chase in 2007 but since he unseated his rider in the 2008 John Smiths Grand National he appears to have lost his way and point-to-pointing could well rejuvenate his interest.

The ex David Pipe-trained Quaddick Lake clocked up a couple of wins under Rules.

Three divisions of the open maiden are sure to provide plenty of excitement with the bookies the best indicator of the horses' chances.

With its natural amphitheatre, viewing is exceptional at the track. Access is easy and there will also be tradestands, a bar, bookies and catering.

Entrance is £20 per car or £10 per car with a single occupant.
