Harborough Race Club
Dingley
Saturday 29th May 2010

by Graham Taylor

Some exciting Point to Point racing and a prize of £100 to be awarded to the best dressed/turned out Lady is on the cards at this extremely popular racecourse near Market Harborough this weekend. A high total of 107 horses have been entered for the six races. First race is scheduled for 2.00pm.

Dingley is one of the countries most beautiful Point to Point courses with excellent viewing and with the new water storage system now in place ground conditions are reported near perfect.

Admission prices for the meeting are as previous Dingley meetings. £15 per car with driver, £5 each extra occupant, £5 pedestrians. Children under age 13 are free.

First race on the card is the Marston’s Beer Company Harborough Race Club Members Race for Novice Riders. There are 14 entries. Aztec Warrior looks the one to beat here. The nine year old ran a close second in the Dodson & Horrell Novice Riders championship at Tabley recently and will have the in form George Henderson riding. The danger however may come from Inishturk who was an easy Members Race winner at High Easter in late March.

Race Two is the www.wewantyourweels.co.uk Restricted Race and this is kindly sponsored by Paragon Automotive and wewantyourweels.co.uk of Thurleigh, Bedfordshire. 17 horses are entered here. This looks a tight contest to call with a total of five entries all running second in their previous outings. Nevertheless Jake Greenalls probable mount, Attrapeur has shown promise when third in a Restricted Race at Easingwold on his last outing and is just preferred.

Seventeen horses have entered for The Champagne Taittinger Ladies Open Race kindly sponsored by Champagne Taittinger. The race itself could turn out to be a hot contest with some quality horses entered. Angela Rucker could choose from Honest Endeavour and Petit Lord who are among the stable stars. The Hutchinson team have the consistent Free and Limerick Leader, who loves the Dingley course, both entered. Jill Dawson is likely to ride Vingis Park who has to be considered. However the vote just goes to Narciso who has completed a hat trick of wins this season and will have Jacqueline Coward on board.

Fourth race of the afternoon is The Lycetts Mens Open Race and a total of 13 have been entered. The race is sponsored by Lycetts, Bloodstock and Property Insurance Brokers and Financial Advisors. Azzemour has the in form Johnny Bailey riding and must be considered. Sonevafushi comes down from the North and dead heated on his last outing. This race however looks between Laertes, a good winner last time out at Garthorpe and Waynesworld who won a decent Open race at Bredwardine. The former could prove the winner.

Race Five is The Hows Racesafe 9y.o. and over Harborough Race Club Members Race and sponsored by Hows Racesafe – made in Northamptonshire, sold Worldwide.

Twenty entries have been accepted and the race looks competitive. Waynesworld, also entered in the previous race, looks to have a good chance here and may have Tom Weston in the saddle. Holy Joe was third in a Hunter Chase and should go close. Nippy Des Mottes has good form in Open company but the winner could be the locally trained Mendo from the Hutchinson yard who slipped up when in a good position on his latest run.

Final race on the card is The Berry’s Open Maiden Race, kindly sponsored by Berrys of Kettering. A total of 26 horses have been entered. This again looks close to call as four of the entries have been placed second on recent outings. Another Puzzle ran second in a Maiden race at Larkhill. Definitely It took the same placing at Guilsborough. Hazzard a Guess was similarly placed on this course in early May. The selection for this race however is Caught In Time, who was a neck second in a Maiden at Ashorne.

Dingley racecourse can be located 3 miles east of Market Harborough near the A427.
