Tabley
Sunday 16th May 2010
by Arthur Shone
The North West Hunts Club stage a good competitive days racing at Tabley, Nr Knutsford this Sunday May 16th 2010. Their fixture has a attracted a bumper entry of 177, which is an increase of 21% on the corresponding meeting last season. Because of the large number of entries the Open Maiden race has been divided, making a total of 8 races on the day.
Clerk of the course Rob Hankey listed the going as Good to Firm on Sunday May 9th 2010. Speaking yesterday he said,.” The going today is good to firm ground, if it does not rain tomorrow then we will start to water the course and will continue to water as necessary to ensure decent going for our meeting this Sunday.”
The North West Hunts Club will be updating their website prior to this Sunday’s fixture at Tabley, and their clerk of the course Rob Hankey will be putting a daily going update on the site as well, their website address is www.knutsfordraces.co.uk. The original Knutsford races took place from 1729-1857.
Admission to this popular Cheshire course, is £30 per car for reserved car parking if applied for in advance on 01625 584543 before the meeting or £40 on the day of the race meeting, £20 per car for normal car parking regardless of the number of passengers, with single occupancy charged at £10.
Racing comes under starters orders at 2.00pm and is set to conclude at 6.10pm . Prior to racing there will be two pony races taking place, which will get underway at 1.00pm
The feature race on the card is the Dobson & Horrell PPORA Club Members Race For Novice Riders Championship Final. The sponsors have put a grand in prize money into this race, with the first rider past the judge collecting £650.00, the runner up £200.00, the third and fourth riders past the post receiving £100.00 and £50.00 in that order. The first three riders in the frame collect points towards the Harley Racing National Novice Riders Championship. This looks a really good quality race, as you could make a case for a large percentage of the 16 entries. The veteran French bred gelding Chicuelo won his last two races last season. He has started 2010 where he left off, and has won both his starts in 2010 at Eyton on Severn and Kingston Blount, at Eyton he beat the John Flook trained No Virtue by three parts of a length, the daughter of Defacto went on to win her next three races next time out, an interesting rematch on the cards. There are some very progressive horses amongst the entries including the Simon Andrews trained Fully Loaded, a very impressive winner at High Easter and Horseheath, others to note include Aztec Warrior and Drom, a cracking final in prospect
