The South Shropshire Hunt have attracted a decent entry of 125 for their meeting at Eyton on Severn (SY5 6PW) on May Bank Holiday Monday May 3rd 2010.
Racing comes under starters orders at 2.00pm and is set to conclude at 5.40pm. Racegoers are advised to arrive early because this fixture often attracts a crowd of 10,000 plus.
Admission to this popular Shropshire course, which has been racing since 1923 is £25 per car regardless of the number of passengers with single occupancy charged at £10.
Clerk Of the course Johnny Cornes lists the going as Good to Firm on Monday April 26th 2010. Speaking earlier today, he said, “We will water the course all day this Wednesday and we will continue to water as necessary to ensure that we have good ground for our meeting on May Bank Holiday Monday .The going will be updated during the week on the racecourse website www.eytonraces.com.”
The Men’s Open for the John Whalley Perpetual Challenge Cup has attracted a top class quality entry. Heading the bunch is the Sian McCain trained Vicario - the Vettori gelding who runs in the well known colours of the flamboyant owner Derek Malam has won a hunter chase at Bangor on Dee and races between the flags at Eyton on Severn and Alpraham already this season. The Belinda Clarke trained Belligerent sprang a shock at the Tanatside meeting at this course last month when beating Vicario, an interesting rematch. Horsham Lad, trained by Fergal O’Brien for owners William and Angela Rucker, is a progressive type, who has won his last three races between the flags, the latest at Brocklesby saw the Muroto gelding beat Pleasure Shared readily by 3 lengths. Others to note with solid winning form are Cedrus Libani, He’s The Gaffer and Shady Anne, a cracking race is prospect.
The South Shropshire Hunt will be having a parade of their hounds after the third race, this event is very popular with the younger generation who love to go into the paddock and mingle with the hounds.
