The York and Ainsty will be holding their meeting this Sunday and with course been watered, excellent racing conditions are expected. 188 entries have been received, spread across an eight race card, so should produce some exciting finishes.
The first race is the Hunt Members race and looks a tightly contested event. Ballela Road looks to have ability and this track could find an improved effort, ex hurdler Coconut Beach makes his pointing debut, whilst stable mate Glad Star will be ridden by owner trainer Steven Clark and good give a bold display on last seasons form. Oojar was an impressive maiden winner, however has disappointed since, but should improve further for better ground. Vital Spark looks the best horse in the race and could go close for Harriet Dukes who showed she could have a future in this sphere when riding at Doncaster recently. However Thats Racing has improved with each run this season and an eye-catching run behind Narcisco recently will make him hard to beat.
Selection - Thats Racing
The second race is the Open Maiden race and has been divided resulting in two divisions. In Division 1 Chapman’s Peak looks as though this easy track will play to his strengths, Ebony Cloud is only in his first season but has been putting up some respectable efforts, whilst Lewesdon Tom improved again to be second at Mordon and can go close here. Victor was a modest second recently, but has room for improvement, Some Lad was well fancied when not disgraced in his only bumper appearance, however Nothing Left looks to be on an upward curve this season and should get off the mark here.
Selection – Nothing Left
Division 2 of the Maiden looks a more competitive event, with several having recent form. Buckshaw has been placed on both his starts this season, including a competitive Members race at the Bedale meeting so should go close. Budge Ya But looks to be improving however on form figures may not be one to trust, Outback Bob was second at the Cheshire meeting recently, whilst Lady Hills was an encouraging third on debut, has disappointed since. Alforone has shown signs of ability and a bold display can be expected, along with Blaney Bouncer whos breeding suggests he should take to pointing well.
Selection – Buckshaw
The fourth race is a very competitive Ladies Open and the in form horse is Andre Chenier who continues to run well this season and will no doubt be in the frame again. Allumee has yet to have a say in points, however is a horse that likes an easy trip so this could see him go well at a big price. Charlies Memory has not been seen since the new year, but should go well, Delfinia was second in this race last season, Gods Token will be well suited to this track and could be hard to peg back, whilst First Thought was a good fourth at Mordon but may struggle here. Holy Joe looks rejuvenated now he has been dropped to shorter trips, Lutin Du Moulin continues to run consistently, along with the 14yo Wilfie Wild who bounced back to his best recently and could go well again. Blanding’s Castle returned to something like his best at the Hurworth and with conditions much more in his favour he can double up on last years victory here.
Selection – Blanding’s Castle
The Mens Open looks to be full of some of the Greenalls best including one David Easterby used to train in Bow School, who has ran several creditable races in Hunter Chases and a repeat of that will see him go close. Amicelli looks a light of his former self, Browns Beck often runs well here but would need to be at his best, Loudon was last seen a fast finishing third in a Catterick Hunter Chase and can go well again, whilst Mister Gloss clearly has ability but is let down by his poor jumping. Roby De Cimbre was an easy winner of a Members race, however was very disappointing subsequently in a Hunter Chase, so would need to come back to his best here. Quechua Des Obeaux was a closing second to Narcisco at the Middleton meeting and no doubt he can improve again here. Nippy Des Mottes showed stamina is not his forte, when weakening badly at Charm Park to finish third.
Selection - Quechua Des Obeaux
The Restricted looks an open event with 21 entries. Liverpool could continue to improve, whilst Attrapeur was a winner at Bangor On Dee and could go well, but is yet to prove himself at this distance. Kirby Whiske got off the mark at Charm Park in a furiously run race, Minstalad has not stepped up on his Corbridge win, but could get into a place, whilst Sutton was an emphatic winner of his maiden at Whitwell so should be respected here. Oojar can be forgiven his poor run at Alnwick as he needs much better gorund, however Lewsdon Duchess was a run away winner at this track last season and an easy winner of his Members race recently, so should be difficult to beat.
Selection – Lewesdon Duchess
The Confined is the most hotly contested race of the day as it normally is. Abandon Ship can show an improved effort on this seasons form, Cop Howe looks to be on the downgrade, Baron Romeo could have a squeak for the Birbeck team, whilst Howard Howard was a progressive horse last season so should be watched. Knoxhille Archi, Miss Sunflower and Major Shark have been disappointing this season, but on their best efforts could have a say. Wantage Road is going well at the moment and can give a bold bid if the ground is on the quick side. Sea Senor is a progressive horse and will surely go close here, along with King Among Queens. No Complaint and Potts Of Magic are both finding their best form now and should run well for Jack Greenall.
Selection – Sea Senor
The final race is the Open Maiden race and has attracted 29 entries. Ajay looks to have ability but is very unwilling to use it, Buckhaw has been running well this season and can do so again, Chapel House was second to the very useful Natureofthebeast, with the third winning since and will surely go close here. Meertrix ran well at this meeting last year but will need to find more, Octavio put up a good front running display at Mordon to finish fourth. Sharmon ran well on his pointing debut and is worth an each way bet, however Warrior Choise looks to have ideas of his own so should be avoided.
Selection – Chapel House
