York & Ainsty
Easingwold
Sunday 27th April 2008

by John Milburn

The York and Ainsty Point to Point at Easingwold on Sunday have received the largest entry of any Yorkshire meeting with 178 entries. Both Maiden races have entries of 35 for the Young Maiden and 32 for the Open Maiden, with a safety factor of 18 further divisions may be necessary.

The opening Members race at 2-00pm has 14 entered, Buddy Girie is a winner of 6 races, 3 of them at Easingwold will be a popular winner, if repeating last years success but will need fast ground, and could make a belated seasonal debut, Widemouth Bay ran a big race when 2nd at Sherriff Hutton but subsequently disappointed at the Bedale, but has the best form and can win for Joanna Brown.

The 5,6,7 yo Maiden race has the largest entry 0f 35. Jabo has finished 2nd twice in Maidens and will once again run a big race, Liverpool returned to form with a gallant second at Hornby Castle but Mystically showed his best form yet when chasing home the very useful Quoliore at Mordon and can be another winner for Oliver Greenall.

The Ladies Open has most of the areas top horses entered, Misty Gem could be a deserved winner having unseated with the race at her mercy at Hornby Castle and has the beating of eventual winner Plutocrat. Narciso may opt for the following weekends Pendle Forest meeting, but Wilfie Wild who looked like returning to form at Whitwell can score at Easingwold for the 3rd time.

The Volkswagen Mens Open qualifier will be a one horse race with Cheltenham Foxhunters winner Amicelli looking a certain winner with the consistent Loutin Du Moulin and Andre Chenier filling the places.

The Restricted looks competitive with several recent Maiden winners in with a chance, Jimmy’s Duky won at Mordon with plenty in hand, Out To Lunch won a Bedale Members but David Easterby has Bow School, The Fairhill Boy and Malton entered and which ever is declared can win.

4 times winner Chorizo will bypass the Open to run in the Confined and will start a short price favorite, Cop Howe can be placed along with the consistent Toms Party.

The concluding Open Maiden race has 32 entered but there are not many with much form, Ramanov Rambler has been placed in his 2 runs this season, Pinnacle Ridge ran a promising race when 3rd on his debut at the Burton meeting at Market Rasen but Culbann who finished a close 2nd on his debut at Hornby Castle can go one better than when finishing runner up at Easingwold last year.
