East Cornwall
Great Trethew
Sunday 30th March 2008

by Lucy Johnson

A TERRIFIC entry of over 150 should ensure some great point-to-point racing at Great Trethew next Sunday where the track’s popularity with young horses has meant the two and a half mile maiden has been split into three divisions.

First of the three divisions is off at noon with plenty of untried horses mixing it with others who have more experience. A couple to note are the good looking mare Stillhertoes, who deserves a change of luck on her third outing, and Primitive Quest who should improve for her third at the course in February.

The men’s open looks an interesting race with plenty of loyalty remaining with the brilliant mare Sea Snipe who has yet to find her form this season. Dare To Dream is bidding for a hat trick after his wins at the course and at Buckfastleigh; Lisheen Storm has been playing the bridesmaid this season and is due a win and Szeroki Bor won the confined at the course in February.

A superb ladies’ open is in prospect with Croix De Guerre, Innocent Rebel, Margham Abbey, Dr Cerullo and Quick among the entries.

In the confined maiden, What A Moose could give his owners, Exeter Raceourse, their first success this season; while the intermediate, which is a qualifier for the final at Exeter in May, looks a high class entry . Runners include Cothelstone winner So Long; Emergence, who is unbeaten in his two runs this season; the consistent Fort of Gold; Ottery St Mary winner Amber Dawn and dual winner Sulawacee.

There are 35 entered in the restricted. Entries include Come What Augustus, a winner at Ideford Arch in December; course winner Duetto; Mr Woodrow, who won a maiden at Wadebridge and the fantastically named Joshua Squashuar who came home in front at Erw Lon earlier this month.

The course is situated just off the A38 near Liskeard. Entrance is £20 per car and all occupants or £15 per with one person. First race is off at noon.
