Kilworthy
Easter Saturday 22nd March 2008

EASTER weekend means a treat for racegoers with two point-to-points in the Devon and Area – on Saturday at Kilworthy near Tavistock and Monday at Trebudannon near Newquay in Cornwall.

Besides some excellent racing in prospect, children’s entertainment, a hog roast, bookies and licensed bar are some added attractions at Kilworthy.

Seven races are scheduled, beginning at 12.30pm with the members’ race. Entries include last year’s winner Wendy’s Dynamo and the consistent mare Coffee Morning.

The confined maiden has been split into two divisions and entries in the first include Hilton Hall, one for the short list if he takes the eye in the paddock, and Karley who finished a promising second at Great Trethew this season. He’s trained by Polly Gundry and Ed Walker who have enjoyed a terrific strike rate this season and could saddle Rockwithacaveman to win for the fifth time this season in the Mixed Open.

This looks a potentially superb renewal with any amount of decent horses entered including Quick who, like Rockwithacaveman, was formerly trained by Martin Pipe. A veteran of some 40 races, with eight hurdle wins under his belt, he’ll find point-to-pointing a lot easier than his career under Rules.

Others to come into the reckoning include course winner Lisheen Storm, who is also entered in the confined, Calitwatulike, Concert Pianist, El Hombre Del Rio, McSolo and Jalons Star who has plenty of ability and would have won at Buckfastleigh if he hadn’t dug his toes in on the run-in. Picking the winner out of this lot looks tough, but of all of them, Dante’s Back looks the one to beat. He was balloted out of the Christie Foxhunters’ at the Cheltenham Festival last Friday and he seems to be better than ever this season.

Confined entries include Sara Monica and Buckfastleigh winner Dusty Bandit and in the restricted Howdy Cloud could make his seasonal reappearance. Intermediate entries include Sulawacee and Ted One, also running for the first time this season after impressing last year.

The course is situated nr Brentor at Tavistock. Entrance is £10 per car and driver and £5 for each additional person.
