IT’LL BE ALL GO AT GARNONS THIS SUNDAY!
Garnons Estate will host a nine-race card this Sunday (16 th) for the South Herefordshire Hunt point-to-point. Secretary, Liz Morgans, has been snowed under with entries (164), many of whom had been denied a run when the Brecon & Talybont fixture got called off last weekend.
“We’ve got runners coming from all over the UK,” reported Liz. “The PPORA Novice Riders Race, sponsored by Dodson and Horrell, is especially popular, and we’ve split that and the Young Horse Maiden race so far. It’s going to be a very busy day, and we’re delighted to welcome some first time sponsors, including Mercedes-Benz.”
The Novice Riders Series has really taken off, and the two races on Sunday are qualifiers for the prestigious Final at Tabley on May 18 th.
Though the forecast for the week is wet and windy, the weather is predicted to clear by the weekend, and one of the people crossing his fingers for the fixture is Kilpeck man, Dick Pike. Dick, who rode ‘between the flags’ for 34 seasons, has been deeply involved with the organizing of the South Herefordshire meeting and has been Area Secretary of the PPSA since 1988. To mark his unstinting contribution to the sport, there will be a special presentation made to Dick during the afternoon.
The first race-the Confined – is scheduled to be off in the beautiful parkland at 1.30 pm, and the course can be found at Byford, six miles west of Hereford on the A438.
