BALABLEU BIDS FOR REPEAT
Charing hosts the third meeting of the South East point-to-point season on Sunday (24th Feb). With good ground and fair weather expected, and plenty of runners entered, the day looks set for some exciting racing. Talented newcomer Balableu (Peter Bull), winner of the first race of the season at Detling, is an intended for the Restricted, while Andrew Coveney expects to run The Grey Baron in the Open and Westfield John in the Club race. David Robinson and Bee An Bee return to action following their popular victory at Godstone, the 66-year-old grandfather bidding for a 44th career win. With Bee An Bee also entered for the Open alongside Turnstile, to be ridden by Stuart Robinson, there's a chance of a father and son showdown, but the Club race is likely to be preferred.
Old Kilminchy (Marcus Gorman) is set for the Open, while Philip Hall expects to ride Delgany Gale (Club), Glenbower Woods (Maiden) and possibly Buster Collins (Open).
The first race is scheduled for 12.30 and admission is £25 per car (£10 for single occupancy).
In the preceding pony racing (11.15) Lizzy Norman, aged 15, bids to repeat her Open victory at Godstone with Flash IV, but novice winner Champlers Spring Fever is a non-runner due to a bout of colic. The meeting sees the racing debut of ten-year-old twins Florence and Poppy Hole on Smirnoff Ice II and Poppy.
Charing racecourse is five miles NW of Ashford on the junction of the A20 with the A252.
