Avon Vale
Larkhill

by Brian & Gill Armstrong

Trueflyingcolours took Larkhill's truly run Ladies Open in a very fast time (5m 52s). The Stuart Penny-trained nine-year-old led over the last three fences under Leanda Tickle after a mile-long duel with market rival Seigneur Des Bois (Ally Stirling). Connections reported that Trueflyingcolours, now a two-time Larkhill winner since his purchase two years ago, has benefited from the application of cheekpieces this season.

Bedrock Fred and Hincheslea Moor both recorded their fourth course successes. The former led throughout the final circuit of the Men's Open under Danny Burton. Bred, owned and trained by El Tanner and her partner, Dave Weston, Bedrock Fred was making his first appearance since falling at Cottenham on 30 November. "He damaged his neck at Cottenham, has had treatment to remove sarcoids and we've been waiting for fast ground," summed up El.

Hincheslea Moor and jockey Daniel Sansom were clear throughout the last mile of the Conditions contest. The win took the eight-year-old to the head of the current season's Larkhill Best Horse Award standings. "He can handle most surfaces here, as he loves Larkhill so much, but he's gone very well on today's quick surface," felt New Forest owner-trainer James Young.

Charles Whittaker's Chinatown Boy deservedly opened his account under Alice Mills in the Maiden after seven placed efforts in eight outings. Chinatown Boy made all the running and had enough left to hold Darren Edwards' challenge aboard favourite, Crackacan.

Will Hickman retained his 100% - three from three - record for Chievely owner-trainer Tim Underwood aboard Intermediate winner Knowhentofoldem. The eight-year-old Irish purchase tracked rivals Baily Bridge and What About Will for much of the contest, but only grabbed the lead when the latter swerved on the flat after jumping the last in a clear lead.

Wak A Turtle turned the Restricted into a procession under Jamie Thomas. "He won his Maiden here in February and is ideally suited to short sharp tracks," felt trainer Kayley Woollacott. Stratford's May Subaru Restricted Final is on the cards.

James McNeile, 55, achieved his first competitive win aboard the Laura Thomas-trained Qianshan Leader in the Hunt race after two previous walkovers in the same contest. The 11-year-old disputed with the favourite, Mohawk Warrior, for much of the contest before striding clear over the last four fences.
