REVIEW
STEVENSTONE
VAUTERHILL
MONDAY 5 MAY 2003

by Lee Glanville

Both Liam and Colin Heard found horses to beat them on Bill Me Up and Quickswood respectively at the Stevenstone bank holiday meeting at Vauterhill.

Competitive racing was the order of the day. Quickswood, bidding for a weekend double, was seen off by Fossy Bear and Sue Young in the Mixed Open, the winner running on well after the last.

Bill Me Up (Liam Heard) was beaten by Colin Blank's progressive Bengal Bullet in the Intermediate, again well ridden by Sarah Gaisford to complete a hat-trick of wins this season. He had been pushed by Father Mansfield who was very nearly on terms when falling at the last..Bak on Board (Lucy Gardner) is no slouch but was back in third place.

Gardner had earlier won the Confined easily on Hasten Bak, beating Happy Team (Les Jefford). Jennifer Congdon broke her collar bone in a last fence fall on Destin d'Estruval who was turning out for the second time, having
unseated Congdon at the third in the members' race won by Mark Dennis. Dennis has often been heard in the commentary box this season but he took time out to record his first win, beating his younger brother Tim (riding
Change) on their father Walter's Milla's Man in the members' race.

Sarah Gaisford had to make do with second place in the first division of the maiden when Karinga City surrendered a win by jumping left throughout. The horse was only beaten a length by James Young on Porters Lodge.

The second division went to Richard Woollacott on Vic's Brush who was virtually unchallenged throughout, despite the late efforts of fast-finishing Lirkimalong (Sue Young) .

A close finish in the Restricted was fought out between Simon Edwards on eventual winner Neveradullmoment and Ollie Jackson on Fortysixallout.
