SOUTH DURHAM
MORDON
SATURDAY 17 MAY 2003

by Arthur Thompson

Overnight rain left the course on the soft side of good at the South Durham meet held in the grounds of local trainer, John Wade.
The first race, the South Durham Members, went to Mr Mcduck (Lee Bates) after a hard fight with Heather Lad (David Raw) with Romany Move (Trevor Glass) in third place.

The Confined saw a battle for most of the race but turning for home only three were in with a chance with Quango (Jo Foster) getting the better of Wynyard Dancer (Tina Jackson) with Nigel Tutty on Darak getting up for third place.

This was the first leg of a double for Miss Foster who went out for the Ladies Open on the grey star Silver Groom to have yet another battle with Miss Jackson on Sally Scally, the grey just getting the better in a first class race with both horses and riders giving their all.

The Mens Open race had long priced (100/1) Erni up front for most of the race but had to give way to Nordic Crest with Victoria’s Boy in second place  and Erni keeping third place

The restricted race put a smile on the bookies wet faces when Hadaway Lad came home in front of Gentleman Charles with Hessac in third place.

The open Maiden race saw the well backed Sams Way take it up with four fences to jump, but was overtaken by Lord Scroop on the down section with Nomadic Blaze in third spot.
