2007 Season

ASK BOBBY
Trained by Mary Sowersby
This home-bred capped off a fine 2005 with back-to-back victories at Garthorpe, the first of which was in a very hot race for novices. He has the happy knack of pulling out more in the latter stages of his races when challenged and natural progression should see him in opens. If all goes well, the plan is for Ask Bobby to be aimed at novice hunter chases. He has been given plenty of time to mature and is now a strong and taking individual.

DUCHESS ACCOUNT
Trained by Charles Brader

Another home-bred, she has given the Brader family many happy times over the past three seasons. Duchess Account stays all day and has kept her form remarkably well. Ably assisted by Emma Brader, she will be trying to make it ten successes between the flags. With a fleet turn of foot in the last half mile, she won’t be easy to beat on the longer tracks and her main target is the Fernie Four Miler, which she won in thrilling fashion in 2006.

GOOD EVENING
Trained by Maxine Stirk

He had two starts as a four-year-old and on the second of them came tantalisingly close to breaking his duck before going down to the smart Barton Star at Garthorpe. With this experience under his belt, there is bound to be more to come in 2007. He has had the summer to thrive, but won’t be assigned a heavy schedule. His appearances will be chosen wisely and it will be a great surprise of he isn’t good enough to pick up a maiden in the hands of the excellent Guy Brewer.

SAJOMI RONA
Trained by Gillian Smith

Whilst consistently placed in restricteds, he had hardly set the world on fire until his usual blinkers were dispensed with towards the tail end of the 2006 season. The tight circuit of Easingwold was suitable for him to chalk up his first success for current connections, before his attention was turned to hunter chases over slightly shorter trips. Dogged determination meant he filled the runner-up berth at Sedgefield behind a useful sort, but Sajomi Rona saw off all comers at Hexham to register his initial victory at this level. With help from the saddle in the form of Yorkshire novice champion Ian Smith, Sajomi Rona should make his presence felt in hunter chases at distances of around two and a half miles, or three miles on decent ground.

THE ARTFUL FOX
Trained by Mary Sowersby

A big, imposing customer, the close season off will have done him the power of good as he has had further chance to grow into himself and strengthen up. Beaten a short-head at Hexham when last seen, he has proved to be more than capable already in his fledgling career so far. He seems to take everything in his giant stride and has the physique to become a major player at the game. He ought to be able to find a maiden prior to going on to better things.

TONY’S PRIDE
Trained by Mary Sowersby

Knocked down for 7,500gns at Doncaster Sales in August 2006, he hasn’t shown a lot in four runs over hurdles. Tony’s Pride does have the look though of a type that could be seen in a different light with a bit of time on his side. Sure to have been well-schooled, three miles might just be the making of him. He is certain to know what is required and could manage a maiden.

2007 Season

BROCTUNE MELODY
This one caught my eye in 2006 with some very good runs and had the services of two very good jockeys in Mark Walford and Steve Charlton and should improve this term.

JUNIOR FONTAINE
Not sure if this one is going pointing or under rules. If pointing, I’m sure to see it win. Went around Liverpool last year in the Foxhunters and came back in 5th place. Pointing or under rules, watch this one.

ROBBER
I tipped this one last year and I’m doing so again in 2007. Won once and placed a few times and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet; could be a Grimthorpe Gold Cup horse.

BADR
One of the best maiden winnerss to come out of Yorkshire 2006. Look very good under Steve Charlton at Easingwold and you’ll get money back on this one

RIGADOON
Won very nicely at Easingwold and should win again in 2007. Jumps well.

SAJOMI RONA
Placed in all his starts and won a hunter chase late on in the year.
